Poems are for people who can't write books: Last Minute Winner Part Once

From looking at Mr. Walter Whitman's journal, it is easy to see that he was a man of many thoughts. Although, as seen in his journal, these thoughts seem to be very disorganized and spread out. He writes in cursive causing me to not be able to read it (I am sorry I am not a very sophisticated reader) and therefore not really understand a lot of his thoughts. His writing is very messy with each new line starting at a different place and lot of the phrases are either concise or crossed out with a line through them. This tells me that Walter Whitman was a deep thinker who had millions of ideas racing through his head a day. All of them trying to tell him what to write or at least lead him in the right direction in terms of his poem making skills. Although I cannot actually read what each of them say, I would assume that all of these thoughts written down would have to do with Whitman's beliefs and ideologies of the United States.

Going through the notes, my previous thoughts were proven to be true. Even though the writing was clearly illegible,  it was right to assume that they had something to do with his life and what he was going through at that time. The notes speak of the interactions or lack there of with Abraham Lincoln that Whitman had. His fascination with this President Elect could have shown Whitman's fond interest on American politics. He then goes on to give his thoughts on religion, discussing the reconciling of two religions. This goes back to sharing his political ideologies on how he wanted a more unified nation, a "universal brotherhood". So basically Whitman used the journal to state his beliefs and ideologies while also trying to configure it into a poem-esk form.
